The '24 Hour Race' 2009

Twenty-four hours of grueling physical activity is not for the faint-hearted but the team at Arrow International say “bring it on!”.

The ’24 Hour Race’ and ‘6 Hour Race’ are annual events that have been running since 2000 and the 2009 event achieved record numbers with over 80 people putting their bodies and minds through what many of us would regard as torture.

Arrow International Auckland was joined by Aurecon Auckland, Aurecon Tauranga, Opus Auckland, Harrison Grierson, Vision Senior Living, and Pragmatix who were all keen to challenge themselves over the 21st and 22nd of November.

A central hub was based on a private farm just outside of Warkworth and while the skies held for the first 12-hours; the final two legs were accompanied by low cloud & constant drizzle.  Teams navigated their way through a secret course utilizing core adventure disciplines consisting of 107kms of mountain biking, 22kms kayaking and 78kms of trekking.  Most chose to run the race as a relay however two die-hard teams chose to run it as a non-stop physical challenge.

‘24 Hour Race’ winners were Richard Stevenson and Aidan Craig representing Vision Senior Living with a time of 20hrs, 40 minutes and Arrow’s own CEO, Hugh Morrison with Piet Strulik were a close second with 21hrs and 19 minutes.  ‘6 Hour Race’ winners were Pragmatix with a time of 5hrs and 15minutes, followed closely by Aurecon Tauranga who ran it in 6hrs and 37minutes.

It’s a team building event like no other and truly embodies Arrow International’s culture of passion, integrity and challenge.

So… who’s up for 2010?!
