ST JOHNS CHURCH REDEVELOPMENT

St Johns Church Redevelopment

The historic St Johns Church is on the move...

The Millers Flat Church, built in 1870, is on the move again!

After a three year struggle to gain the necessary NZ Historic Places Trust and Resource Consents, the Wakatipu Community Church is finally ready to begin construction of its new hall and renovation of the historic stone church.

To make room for the new hall, the Church had to be be relocated from its existing site to the Arrowtown Trust historic precinct.

The Church has quite a history, in fact, in the 150 years since it was first built it has moved around the Central Otago region three times and has changed uses from a church, to a hall and finally part of an historic village. This third and hopefully final move involved craning the building over the historic stone church and a short drive through the Arrowtown streets to its new location in the township.  The move drew quite a crowd of locals and tourists, all keen to witness Arrowtown history in the making!

Arrow International is not only managing the project, we have also been awarded the construction contract for the new hall and facilities. Construction is due to commence on the 14th of June and completion has been scheduled to be in time for a Christmas service at the new hall.
